Every synth you own, on twelve encoders
Karl is a MIDI controller with a 7 inch touch screen and 12 endless encoders. It loads the CC map of more than 400 synths, so every parameter sits under your hand. Try it here: pick a synth and turn the encoders.

From the box to sound in three steps
Plug it in
One USB-C cable carries power and MIDI. Two DIN ports and a USB host port take care of the rest of the studio.
Load a synth
Pick it in the library, on Karl or in the web editor. Its parameters land on the encoders, grouped and colored by section.
Play and keep
Turn, touch, and save the pages you build as presets. Karl holds 1,024 of them.
Made for hands on a stage
Karl is built in Leipzig from one block of aluminium, for players who change sounds while they play.
Twelve endless encoders
Touch sensitive and high resolution. Each one lights up in the color of the parameter it drives.
A screen you can read on stage
Seven inches, 1,000 nits. Tap a value to type it, slide a finger to fine tune it.
Five MIDI ports
USB device, USB host, two DIN in and one DIN out. Karl merges, splits and filters on the way through.
Scripts when you need them
Lua scripts react to any message, draw on the screen and send SysEx to synths that hide their parameters.
We wanted a controller you can read from two meters away, in the dark, with one hand on the keys. Everything on Karl started from that sentence.
From the workshop
All postsKarl now reads more than 400 synth maps
The synth library opens with maps from the open MIDI CC database, and you can play each one from this site.
Why Karl has twelve encoders
Three prototypes, and the number that fits one synth section a page.
Firmware 0.9 beta: NRPN and 14-bit CC
Smooth moves on synths with fine resolution, and faster page changes.
Karl ships in March 2027
Pre-orders are open. You pay when your unit leaves the workshop, and you can cancel until then.
